opening a file from desktop

Dear all,

I want to open a pdf file (or an exe file or any file) located in my desktop. Help me out.

I tried the attached option but it didn't worked. Even no error was reported. VI just ran.

Thanks,
Mathan

Hi Mathan,

do you mean with open the file, that you want to open the file with the corresponding program? For example acrobat reader opens your selected file?

Hai mike,

What i required is when i run my vi, after 3 seconds an exe in desktop should get opened and after 5 seconds it should get closed. That's all. Kindly help me with an example.

Thanks,

Mathan

Hi Mathan,

you can use the SystemExec.vi for that. I´m not sure with close it after 5 seconds. Is it an exe from you? Is the exe ready after 5 seconds? If not i think you have to kill the task with the user32.dll function. Can you explain a little bit more about this exe file??

Dear Mike,

My exe won't do nothing. Its use is, am testing a USB device and when that exe get opened, it should just reset the device and that's all its purpose. So when i run my vi, the exe should get loaded once and maybe after 3 or 5 or 10 seconds(user input) it should get closed.

Thanks,

Mathan

you can use the System Exec vi to start your executable. See the attached picture.

Hai mike,

That worked. Thanks a lot.

(Note : This also worked as altenbach suggested.... Labview\vi.lib\platform\browser.llb\Open a Document on Disk.vi)

Thanks,

Mathan
