pi current loop BLDC startup

I'm controlling a motor with a PI current control function block, from the softmotrion module. I  did some test with a DC power supply(current limited) with good results. Now I want to attach the test setup to the grid with an rectifier, instead of power supply. But I'm worried about the startup, BLDC has a small resistance, so during startup the currents can be high as there is no back EMF. Should I program a startup control structure or will the PI current control function block limit the current during startup. The motor has no load, so back emf will increase fast, as the speed will increase fast.
