The first version of LabVIEW that is officially supported on Windows XP is version 6. I'm afraid that the only response you'll get from NI is to upgrade. Sorry.

it seems there is a work around, when i hit the "window" key on the keyboard , to bring my start menu in the foreground, and then again to release the start menu on the foreground, then the vi in current running mode has again control capabillity, i am assuming it is a "what gets priority" problem, after the printing is done. can this be set somewhere in labview before creating an executable?

Have you seen this same behavior on other operating systems? The previous post is correct, the first version of LabVIEW to support Windows XP is LV 6.1, but you might be able to get it to work using your old version of LabVIEW. I have inlcuded a link to some common causes of printing errors, and you may be able to come up with the problem through this, although I would suggest seeing if you can reproduce this same problem on Windows 95/98. Hope this helps!

Two thoughts.

Is the printer configured to print in the back-ground?

On second thought, I only had one idea.

your printing has taken away priority of front panel exe,
After printing, use your "windows" key, press it TWICE and you will regain control of your executable. (had same problem)
with running exe made with labview 5.X on win xp pro
