problems launching .lvproj files with a double click

Hello Again to my fellow LabVIEW users,

Does any body know the fix to the error, 'PROBLEM SENDING COMMANDS TO THE PROGRAM' when attempting to launch LabVIEW project files?  Here is some background on this problem:

-  Use LabVIEW version 8.0.1 Professional Development, upgraded from 6i Pro Dev
- Use is excessive, several hours per day, many .exe and Installer builds
- Suddenly, '.lvproj' files that have worked for months report the error described above
- I do nto have Zone Alarm installed, or I cannot find evidence of it on my XP machine, so the GOOGLE information on this error does not seem to apply
-  This does not happen with any other programs on my PC, as far as I know
- I completely uninstalled and re-installed LabVIEW 8.0 Pro Dev and the 8.0.1 UPDATER CD, that I received recently....
- The problem persists
- I have no way of opening or recreating .lvproj files that I have been using for months
- In fact, I cannot build .exe at all, anymore

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello Again,

I realized that this message is, most likely, related to the problem above, but I still do nto know the fix

'NI-PAL Service Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

Any ideas?

Thank you.Smiley Happy

Hi, FLT CTRL 6.

That certainly sounds like a frustrating state for your LabVIEW installation! I'm sorry that's happened. Before I can pinpoint what's causing this, however, I'd like to ask you for some more information.

1. Can you send a screenshot of the first error you saw? I haven't been able to find any reference to an error message containing the string "PROBLEM SENDING COMMANDS TO THE PROGRAM," so taking a look at the error will help me a lot.
   a. Does the error occur when you open any project file at all?
   b. Are you able to create and save new project files?
   c. If so, can you then open those successfully?
   d. Though you can't open project files, are you able to open the VIs contained within the project?

2. When did the NI-PAL error appear?
   a. Has it occurred once or repeatedly?
   b. Did it occur during installation of any NI software?
   c. If it does occur repeatedly, can you cause it to occur? (In other words, does it occur repeatedly randomly or predictably?)

Let me know. Have a nice evening.

Thank you for helping.

I cannot send a screen shot, since I performed some trial-and-error in desperation, and the problem seems to be gone.  TO answer your questions, I was not able to open or create any .lvproj files, and I could not build .exe during this condition.

The NI-PAL error ocurred when my system booted into Windows XP, every time.  The fix seemed to be the removal of NI-DAQ traditional and many components of NI-DAQmx and NI-MAX 4.0.  By the way... is NI-MAX 4.0 the latest?  The one I downloaded from teh NI site was a 3.x.x version, so I went back to the 4.0 version that came with LV 8.0 Pro Dev.

All things seem to be working now, with the exception that NI-MAX does nto show my built-in COM port as a devices.  My .vis seem to service this port correctly, however.

Best Regards.
