"Match Pattern" function does the job I believe but cannot locate it in LV 7.1
My signal sent over the serial cable is in the form Signal2Signal2 and I read from somewhere that a feature called "Match pattern" function can do a good job separating them.

Hi Rodawg,

The Match pattern function can be found on the String palette from the block diagram. It is pretty much the center function on this palette. You will need to select "all functions" if you are using the express palette view as a default.
