rapid flashing of led on USB-9161

New device, whole day wasted. Rabid flashing of led on USB-9161 coupled with a NI 9211. Computer sees the device on device manager, but no input in Magtrol 5.0 software. Manual states that if led showing other than 5 different states, of which rapid flashing is not one, contact ni com/ support. No phone number to call, and request form leaves this system somewhere off the screen.
How do I get answers from NI? Or should I just return this order?

Hello Myles,

The easiest way to contact the Technical Support department is to click the "Contact NI" button at the top left of your screen, and then the "Request Support" link.  You will be able to make a service request and choose to either email or phone in your request.  I don't understand your comment about the request form leaving the system somewhere off the screen.  If you can clarify, I will be happy to look into it.

As far as the USB-9211 that you are using, what operating system are you using?  If you are using Windows, you need to use NI-DAQmx Base with this device.  Can you please check that you have this installed?  You can look at Start >> Programs >> National Instruments >> NI-DAQmx Base to verify if it is there on a Windows computer.  If it is not installed, please unplug the device, install the driver, plug in the device, and then run NI-DAQmx Base List Devices from Start >> Programs >> National Instruments >> NI-DAQmx Base to verify it is installed correctly.

If you have the driver installed already, is the flashing you are experiencing at a steady rate?

Regards,
Laura

I am having the same issue with my NI USB-9161 device.  The green LED is flashing rapidly.  I have downloaded all the proper drivers and am still getting the responce that there are no support devices found when I use the DAQ Assistant.  My computer does not recognize the device and I am unable to create a program to read the temperature measured by the thermocouples.  I have been working on this for a while now and have gotten no where.  The online help from ni.com is not that great at helping me solve this problem either.  I have had NO responces to my emails from last week!  Please help me out!

Hello bballE,

Thank you for using NI forums.  So what module are you using with the 9161 and what version of DAQmx Base do you have?  Also, what operating system are you working with.  I found a discussion forum here which discussed some other requirements for the 9161. Please take a look at the forum and let me know if you have met the requirements posted by Hillman (second thread).

Have a nice day,

Hello Brandon,

I have an NI 9211 connected to my USB-9161.  NI-DAQmx Base is what I downloaded when I installed all the drivers but I do not know what version it is.  It is running with LabVIEW 8.2.  The operating system is Windows XP.  I looked at the forum, but no help.  Thanks, though.  Do you know what else could be the issue?

Thanks,

bballE

Hello Again,

I did have the wrong DAQmx Base downloaded.  Now, the LED no longer flashes uncontrollably, in fact, it doesn't even flash at all.  Do you know what I need to do to make this thing work?

So what version of DAQmx Base do you have installed now?  You can find this by opening up Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX, found in the National Instruments folder under Start>>Programs).  In MAX expand My System>>Software and you should see NI-DAQmx Base and the version.

Hello bballE,

If you recall the forum I mentioned earlier, there was a particular post by Hillman (2nd post) which mentioned some requirements for the 9161.  Towards the end of his post he says "The difference between the USB-9161 and USB-9162 is that the USB-9161 works only with NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 or older."  I believe this is why you are experiencing a problem.  I would recommend uninstalling NI-DAQmx Base 3.2 and installing NI-DAQmx Base 2.2.  This should fix your problem.

Hello Again,

So, I uninstalled the later version of NI DAQmx Base and installed the proper one.  The blinking has now stopped, but my device is still not being recognized by the measurement and automation software.  The LED on the USB-9161 is no longer illuminating at all.  I do not see the device being recognized on my computer either.  Do you know what I should do now?

Thanks,
bballE
