rs 232 communication using visa

dear sir,

 i want to communicate with rs232 serial port using visa in labview. Now i want to tranfer the data to my instrument with one communication ic. This ic is capable to communicate with my instrument directly. So how many maximum bytes can i send by  using  visa source. Are there any limitations for that. Please suggest me proper answer for that.

Could you give a little more information on what you are doing? What is the instrument with which you are wanting to communicate? What is this communications IC that you mention? How fast do you need to communicate with the instrument?
