simulating pxi system

Can a PXI system be simulated for testing? If yes how?

Thanks for the help!

Hi C.DOT,

do you mean a complete system or only some cards? What do you mean with simulated? Do you only need the PXI card to test some DAQmx functions or do you want to read counter values or such things?

You cannot simulate an entire PXI system. You can simulate certain cards. Consider: how would you simulate the PXI controller, which is basically an embedded PC?

If you start Measurement and Automation Explorer and look in the left hand pane, you'll see Devices and Interfaces.  Click on that.

Then in the right pane, at the top you'll see Create New.  Click on that and select NI-DAQmx Simulated Device.  This will take you to a menu where you can select the specific device you want to simulate.

Not all devices can be simulated.  But quite a few can be.  My laptop currently has a few PXI cards as well as some SCXI ones simulated.
