simulation using labview/"digital multimeter"

I have just learnt the basics of labview. My project is simulation using LABVIEW. Can some body suggest something to simulate? It sounds vague but I'm not able to figure out a good topic. I thought about simulating a multimeter(digital). CAn somebody please help me with this? Please post links to threads that might be useful. Please ppl...it's urgent....

Hi dumby,

If you are new to LabVIEW and are looking for suggestions on something to simulate, I suggest you have a look at the examples provided by NI using Help>Find Examples. There are various VIs that might be of use to you.

Thanks Kabul,
Really grateful for the reply, but can u perhaps suggest me a concrete topic which can be completed in a 2 month time frame and is something worth researching. Perhaps some good instrument or home appliance(washing machine--proj alrdy done by somebosy)...
Thanks

Can you give us more specific information? You mention a two month time frame - does this mean one person working full time or working three hours per week? Does the project require any connection to hardware (for example a data acquistion device and a signal generator) or is it purely software? Does it require user interaction or does it run autonomously? What kinds of outputs are required, both from the program itself and from the project?

Answers to these questions will make it easier for someone to suggest project topics.

thanks johnsold,
The project is simulation using labview and it is totally software based. It is only one person ssitting three hours a week-no hardware implementation involved.User interaction would be a better option.Outputs would be same as that of the instrument/appliance that i simulate..maybe a little modification would do me good...Please help me johnsold..can u suggest a topic to me?

How about a signal Generator and an Oscilliscope / Spectrum Analyser.  You could generate various functions using LabVIEW then have a Front panel resembling something of a traditional Bench top Sig Gen.  Then on another VI you could have a Oscilliscope or/and a Spectrum analyser in a similar fashion.  I do not know a great deal about networking these but you may even be able to have the Sig gen as a server and the Scopes as clients or something similar.

To expand on Craig's idea, how about a radio system? Simulate a transmitter with various types of modulation (AM, FM, PSK,...) and simulate receivers for each modulation type. Run it with various amounts of noise, attenuation, and fading applied to the communications channel. The oscilloscope and spectrum analyzers could be used to display the signals.

Start with simple AM or FM and add other types if time permits.

Thanks craigc and johnsold,

Can u suggest me some examples in Labview to get started with my project??

Hi Dumby,
In the NI Example Finder, under Analyzing and Processing Signals, there are many simulations.  There are a couple under General you might want to check out.  You can also consider downloading DAQmx drivers and Measurement and Automation Explorer.  Even if you don't have DAQ hardware, you can create emulated hardware that can do some simple things like generate a input signal that's a sine wave.
