the general process of running a step motor

Hi group,

I am working running a step motor with LabVIEW. Since this is the first time ever to write codes for motor, I do not know the right process. Actually, I think I have finished the program, but I do not know how to initialize the motor... If you happen to have the experience of running motor with LabVIEW, could you please tell me what I should do after connecting the wires, finishing the codes? Thanks a lot for your help.

Happy new year!

Best,
Fan

I have not done this my self but the common way to "initialize" a stepper
motor seems to be to put a termination switch onto whatwever the motor is
moving and in something that would be considered a "0" or "known"
position. The step the motor until the switch is engaged. Voila.

Thanks.

I am working on it during the holidays(so, no holidays, haha). I found out
that initialize a NI motor motor control system is not as straightforward as
the manual states. Although I am only working on one-axis movement, I found
it very much confusing to initialize both the power drive and the controller
board. Finally, I could communicate with the power drive, but no movement of
the stepmotor still. Terribly tired and desperate..... But will still work
on, work on, work on.

Happy new year to guys and myself!
