using paralell port as on/off button

Hi,
I'd like to use the parallel port as on/off button (V+/ground). I tried the knowledge base and the example given (attached) but I cannot measure a Voltage high or low when I changed PIN 1 at address 378. I changed my BIOS to be bi-directional instead of EPP/ECP. I defenitely forgot something.
Did someone use this option before ?

Here is a thread that covers what you are looking to do. You are trying to use a parallel port as a digital I/O. I found this thread by searching for parallel and dio and it was the 3rd or 4th item.
