The only way I was able to get the serial ports and VISA to work on LabView was to use Windows XP.  I think there are still compatibility issues with Windows 7.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I'm using XP. So your orginal vi should work. Right? I downloaded the vi you posted but it was saved in Labview 2009, therefore I can't run in my Labview 8.5. Labview has no backwards compatibility. 😞

Here is my VI.  It is a bit more complicated because I have other devices connected, but the middle (2nd from top) group is the DSP 3000 code.
