what can I use other than IMAQ Vision to aquire my images from an PCI-1424, (IMAQ board), and analyse them? Will LabVIEW work?

Hello,
I have NI-IMAQ 3 for driver software and LabVIEW 6.1. For Hardware an IMAQ board, (PCI-1424). is it possible to build a VI to analyse an incomming Image signal using just LabVIEW? I noticed on MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer), I can aquire something but it just looks like lines that get less dense as the light goes further away from the CCD chip, and the lines get more dense, (this is all in greyscale), when the light source is closer. I would like to be able to see a wave and see what different kinds of frequencies their are for different light sources. I don't have IMAQ Vision, I downloaded a Demo copy of NI Vision AI 1
.0 but since it is a demo I can't even aquire an image. I know that there are IMAQ VI buttons on the functions pallet in Labview. there are some like grab and aquire and snap ect. I was wondering if something could be made with just Labview to aquire an anylize these images? I am totally lost here, no one knows how to use this program and I am a physics major = computer illiterate. If I do have to buy something else to analyse images would something be better than this Vision Builder AI 1.0? It doesen't seem very easy to use. is Visual basic easier? Are their any good tutorials on the beginning building of VI's? thanks alot for any help you might have.

Brian-

LabVIEW is the ideal solution for your needs. With just the driver software and LabVIEW you can Acquire images, and do some basic analysis by converting the images to a 2D array of values. If you want to do more indepth analysis, you will need to purchase NI Development Module. This toolkit includes Vision Assistant, which will prototype various analysis operations such as edge detection, which might be used to quantify the density of the lines. It will then take your prototyped operation and convert it to LabVIEW code for you so you can do any other analysis or calculations on the resulting data.

There should be some shipping examples for LabVIEW that will show you how to do some basic acquisition in LabVIEW. They should be located in your LabVIEW
Examples Forder under a folder called IMAQ (...\LabVIEW 6.1\examples\IMAQ).

Double check your driver version, our latest version of NI-IMAQ is 2.6. You can check the version by opening Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and opening the software folder on the left. You should see NI-IMAQ listed and the version number. If you want to upgrade to the latest driver it is available for download from the NI web site for free.
