The Timeout Period has expired means that the FP-1000 did not respond to the command sent to it within the Timeout Period (configured in FieldPoint Explorer if you are using the FieldPoint VI's or passed in as a parameter if you are using the FieldPoint Optomux VI's). There are several possible reasons for this error to occur.
1) The FP-1000 is not powered (and thus not responding to communication attempts).
2) The serial cable is not properly installed (using a null modem serial cable instead of a regular cable or the cable is not plugged in).
3) The baud rate on the FP-1000 is not the same as the baud rate you have configured in FieldPoint Explorer.
4) The address of the FP-1000 is not the same as the configured address in FieldPoint Explorer.
5) The timeou
t period is set too low for the baud rate so the entire response is not being received before the timeout occurs.

For future questions on FieldPoint, please consider posting in the FieldPoint Developer Exchange Forum.
