windows 8 compatibility list

I am involved in a modernisation project at an academic intitute, we are on the verge of getting site licenses for  Multisim, Labview and also Elvis II hardware complete with the FPGA boards for our digital electronics courses.

However we have hit a road block, our IT people are very uncomfortable with the labview aspect as it is their intention to roll out Windows 8.1 across the campus at the end of this year.

This is clearly an issue as the Labview FPGA module is not windows 8.1 compatible.

Is there a list of what is and is not windows 8.1 compatible for the Labview Suite?

There is a good chance that this may sink our chances to secure Labview, so I am desperately looking for a way forward.

What is the likelyhood that this compatability issue will be resolved?

Thanks in advance

I'm surprised that LabVIEW 2013 SP1 is Windows 8.1 compatible, but FPGA 2013 SP1 isn't even Windows 8.0 compatible.

That being said there are many versions of LabVIEW that will install, and run fine on unsupported operating systems.  People have been running LabVIEW 7.0 on Windows 8.  LabVIEW 7 was released in 2003.  You will likely not want to just take the advice of a stranger on the internet and contact NI to get a definitive answer, but I am sure it will install and run just fine.

Hi,

Thanks for using our forums. The link below details version compatibility for LabVIEW and below that is the compatibility for the module in question.

Your are correct that there is no official support for FPGA 2013 SP1 module on the Windows 8.0 or 8.1 enviroment.

There is still a chance everything will work for you but there is no way for us to guarantee it as we have not done all the testing necessary to confirm that the module will work on 8.1 My recomendation would be to see if you can get your hands on a copy and try it first to determine if it will work properly on your set up.

Thanks for your reply

Am I reasonably secure to assume that the testing will be happening in the future?

I really cant see why NI would not be dealing with this as windows 8.1 becomes more mainstream

The Xilinx tools used by the FPGA Module do not officially support Windows 8.
