write to measurement file multiple file option not working?

Hi there,

I am trying to make a new file every time the "Write to Measurement File vi" goes trhough an iteration inside of timed loop. I selected the Save to series of files (multiple files) options in the dialog box, set to Use next available filename clicked "OK" twice and connected the "Signals" input. I thought that would do it but it just appended the data. Fine, I thought there is an extra input (new_file) if the "multiple files" option is selected, whihch would force the vi to write a new file,  or so I thought but there wasn't there. So, I opened the vi again and lo and behold it had reverted to save to single file. I can call the dialog by double clicking, or selecting properties, and even select the correct options however if I click ok the vi reverts to save as single file.

Has anyone encounter this?

I guess I'll have to do it the hard way.

Nope.

But if you post the VI with your Express VI that is doing this, then we can try it and see if we are getting the same behavior.

Hard is relative. If by "hard" way you mean not using express VIs, I have found that often times you will in the long run need functionality that an express VI doesn't have, in which case you wish you had done it the "hard" way in the first place(because it would be easier to modify or add functionality) I, myself, stay away from express VI's more as a matter of preference I suppose, and what I have stated is not always true, but something to consider when designing.

Heh, no, it is not that hard. I just created a path for every iteration of the loop and that forces a different file each time. I tried playing around with other I/O options, I am saving a waveform amplitude vs time, but the express vi had actuall better output format than even the export wavefor to spreadsheet function plus I have no time to get really into the I/O available functions.

What version of LabVIEW are you using?

I tried to duplicate the problem in LV 2009f2 by just dropping the express VI and configuring it to "Save to series of files".  I open it up again and the setting is at "Save to one file".  So I do see the behavior you describe.

When I try it in LV 8.6, the express VI behaves as it should and the dialog box stays at the "Save to series of files" radio button.

I wonder if you have found a bug in LV2009?

I am using LabView 2009 V9.0

I would post my vi, but is  a data acquisition program using third party instrument drivers that has grown rather large but I tried the express vi in a smaller sub vi which I am posting.

Yes.  Definite bug.  It shows up in the LabVIEW 2009 Known Issues as CAR 179472.

Search that webpage for 179472.  It will show you the work around for it.

Please don't hijack someone else's thread to draw attention to yours.

Also, please spell out your words completely.  Don't resort to "text message speak".
