wrong voltage reading with M&A Explorer compared to voltmeter

We are using a PCI-MIO-16XE-10 card in the computer and the SCXI-1121 module and -1321 terminal block.  We are attempting to measure the voltage from a GMR sensor that acts like a bridge.  In the Measurement & Analysis Explorer, we don't get the same voltage reading as we do when we measure it using a voltmeter.  What settings should we be using for the 1121 and MIO cards?  For example, what should the input configuration for each be?

Thanks!

Hello,

The first thing I would recommend is to review the section in the Getting Started with SCXI guide for the SCXI 1121 module.  This document gives instructions on how to connect sensors to your SCXI hardware, and contains specific information on how to configure the jumpers on the SCXI 1121.

The SCXI 1121 contains several groups of jumpers that need to be configured depending on the type of sensor being connected.  With these jumpers, you need to configure the gain applied to your signal, what lowpass filter to apply, what type of excitation to apply (voltage or current) and how much, and whether to enable the bridge completion circuitry.  You'll want to use a gain that when applied to your signal, will allow it to utilize the +/-10V range of your DAQ card.  Finally, if you are connecting the PCI-MIO-16XE-10 directly to the back of the SCXI 1121 module using an SCXI 1349 adapter, you will need to configure the amplifier output referencing, which I recommend using Differential mode as it will provide you with the best noise rejection.  With these jumpers configured correctly, you will then need to configure your SCXI system in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  Under Devices & Interfaces,  you will need to create your SCXI chassis and configure the modules and accessories within that chassis.  Make sure that the gain, filter, and excitation settings for each channel in MAX match the settings configured using the jumpers.  You can then use the test panels to determine if your measurements are correct.

If you have verified that your hardware is correctly configured and are still seeing measurement errors, you might need to calibrate your SCXI 1121.  Here is a document that describes this calibration procedure:

SCXI-1121 Calibration Procedure

I hope this helps!

Travis G.
