2012 license

Hello all,

I just performed the 2010 to 2012 upgrade and I have a few questions.

- where is the list of changes / fixes between the two ?

- when is the Linux version coming out ? I certainly HOPE that bug #344028 has been fixed...

- I upgraded my main PC which uses the floating license server. How do I upgrade my laptop which doesn't ? Do I just proceed with the NI updater and all will be fine ? Do I need to give the same licence number as the floating one ? Or some other way ? [ Is NI's longstanding usage of providing 3 installs for each license still valid ? ]

- why is the Upgrader so needy ? It upgrades itself, then .NET, then a whole bunch of other stuff before finally getting 2012...

Thanks.

I don't know the answers to other questions, but here there are the links to CVI 2012 Release Notes, CVI Known Issues and Bug Fix Informations

Hi gdargaud,

-When you say "floating license server", do you mean a volume license server, Flex, or something different?

-When you refer to a "license number", do you mean a serial number for CVI 2012?

-You can get CVI 2012 from the disk or download it here. NI Updater doesn't do full version upgrades, only patches

-Try using the serial number that you have: if it works, great, otherwise it might give us more insight to the problem

If you would like some help getting CVI 2012 activated, you can call 1-866-275-6964 and create a service request for LabWindows/CVI activation (for single-seat) or Volume License Manager (if you have a volume license agreement).

Hello Alex,

-When you say "floating license server", do you mean a volume license server, Flex, or something different?

It's a volume license server, which appears on its own in the license manager of my main PC, which registers DevSuite 2012 DS1, and under 'local licenses' I have 8.5, 2010 and 2012.

-When you refer to a "license number", do you mean a serial number for CVI 2012?

Yes. I don't recall exactly how I got 2010 validated on my laptop without access to the license server (different subnet not allowed from the laptop), but I think I just gave it the license number I got for the main PC install.

-You can get CVI 2012 from the disk or download it here. NI Updater doesn't do full version upgrades, only patches

I think you are wrong here, as the NI updater definitely installed 2012 (12.0.0 422) next to my previous versions. And on my laptop I still have 2010.

-Try using the serial number that you have: if it works, great, otherwise it might give us more insight to the problem

I just ran the updater on the laptop and it shows a padlock next to CVI 2012 with the message saying that I don't have a subscription to the SSP (Standard Service Program). Don't know how to proceed here (I don't have an install disk, although I can normally get a download from the license server).

If you would like some help getting CVI 2012 activated, you can call 1-866-275-6964 and create a service request for LabWindows/CVI activation (for single-seat) or Volume License Manager (if you have a volume license agreement).

OK, will do if I don't find a more direct way. Thanks.

Hi gdargaud,

Check out this article about creating a disconnected license. If that doesn't work, please contact NI Support. A phone conversation with an applications engineer is going to be the fastest way to get CVI 2012 up and running on your laptop.
