Attn National Instruments : There is problem in sorting of response threads from newsgroup contributors

Replies from newsgroup members, which are answers to some question, should
be sorted properly under some relevant thread. But apparently something is
not working properly. A reply in isolation without reference to original
question is useful only to a few individuals. Either I am missing something
or as stated before something is not working properly. Hope it is the later.

Cordially

Rishipa,

I assume that you are using the HTTP interface to newsgroups.ni.com
(http://newsgroups.ni.com). The subject listings in the web interface are
sorted by thread, but they are primarily sorted by date -- thus if someone
replies to a thread that was started, say, two weeks ago, that reply may appear
to be "out in isolation." If that brand new message were to be threaded with
its original post, it would be buried deep in the lists of subject headers.

However, when you click on any message to read its contents through the web
interface, there is a button available called "View Thread." This button will
show to you the entire thread of the message that you are reading, allowing you
to track down original questions quickly, regardless of their age.

I
f you wish for other sorting methods, I suggest reading the newsgroups
through an NNTP (NetNews Transfer Protocol) browser -- probably either MS
Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger. NNTP browsers have more powerful and
flexible header sorting features than a web interface. To view these same
newsgroups via a News reader, visit http://newsgroups.ni.com, select a newsgroup
of your choice, and press "News Reader." If you have a default NNTP browser, it
will be launched for you.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned I use Microsoft Outlook
Express 5.00.2314.1300 and I think it still is a beta version. The earlier
response was generated due to my failure to locate original thread for
following
Subject: Re: *.uir errors in CVI5.5 from Chris
I do not use a web browser for reading newsgroup and I see the original
thread posted by "Grant M. Johnson" , on 2 May 2000 on NI web site.
However, in Outlook Express I have not been able to get this thread.
Discussion about settings related to Outlook Express is not the purpose of
current forum and I would like to end this thread here for good.

Thanks.

Regards,

Rishipa
