Build Distribution errors

No, Nothing changed at all.

I did the build then, immediately after the 1st failure, built again.  Same for the 3rd time which was successful.

Do you think it is possible that anti-virus software could be causing this?

Our coporate anti-virus is Trend-Micro Office Scan.  I would have already tried disabling it during the build but we have strict policies about disabling the anti-virus software.

I'll try to get one of the IT people to temporarily shut it off while I run a few tests.

I got the IT guys to disable the anti-virus for the afternoon yesterday.

That solved the problem.  I was able to do many builds with no errors.

Turned the TrendMicro back on and the problem was back.

So I'm convinced it is the TrendMicro that is the problem.

Has there been any feedback on the TrendMicro causing build problems?

It always seems to get a successful build after a few tries.

I wonder if the build software has some kind of "timeout" on how long it will wait for the file to be available.

Maybe after multiple builds the files get cached in RAM or something that makes them faster to access???

Another thing:

It takes 22 seconds to do the build-distribution with anti-virus off.

I takes 179 seconds with it on.  8 times slower.

There may be customers out there grumbling about NI's slow build times and it's not really NI's fault.

Any ideas on how to proceed from here?

Turning off anti-virus software is actually one of the next steps I was going to suggest. I needed to first confirm that everything was okay in CVI. The fact that anti-virus software is causing this is not surprising and it makes sense that the build takes longer with it on. The anti-virus software is basically scanning every file during the build so obviously that will slow things down. So if the anti-virus software is scanning a file, CVI can't access it at the same time. My guess is that after the first two runs, your anti-virus software scanned all the files already and doesn't have to do it again. You can try adding an exception in the anti-virus software's allow list.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been on vacation since the 16th.

I'm going to dig into this with our coporate anti-virus team to see what I can work out.

Thank you for all your help on this.

I'll let you know how it goes,

Kirk
