CVI 7.1 Installer halts because it can't find CVIMain.msi

I recently upgraded from an old W2K PC to a new work station running XP SP2 so I'm installing all my old development tools on the new machine but I've run into a problem.

When I ran the installer from the CD to install CVI 7.1 on my new system it halted and gave me the following error message:

"Errors were found in your ini file - file not found:
Path = Components\Main\CVIMain.msi. Correct the ini file and try again."

When I browse the CD, I can see that the specified CVIMain.msi file is there so I don't know why the installer can't find it!

As an alternative work-around to clicking on "Install LabWindows/CVI" from the pop-up window that appears when you insert the CD, will browsing the CD and clicking directly on CVIMain.msi properly install CVI?

No, you can not install just the MSI and have CVI work (it contains many MSI files that work in conjunction).  You can browse the CD and click on the setup.exe in the root of the CD.

What it looks like though is that the CD has a scratch or something and that file is corrupt and can not be loaded.  What you can try is to copy the entire CD to your hard drive and then run the Setup.exe from there.  Also try it on another machine, sometimes you can detect a bad CD-ROM drive by getting these errors only on one machine.

Anyway, if that doesn't work let me know an I will send you an email directly to get you info.  That way we can send you a good CD.

Note: if you have the FDS version you can download the Eval from here:

This is the same as the release, the licensing controls whether you are in eval mode or not.

You're right. It was the backup CD I was trying to use that was missing some
files. Installing from the original NI distribution CD worked fine. We
normally work from backup CD's and keep the originals safely locked away but
apparently this one didn't get copied correctly. Thanks.
