Can the E series DAQ PCI-6040E be simply replaced by the M series DAQ PCI-6251?

Hi,

I was interested in purchasing a new DAQ PCI-6040E.  However, when I visited your website there was suggested to consider NI M series PCI-6251.  The problem is that we already have several applications running on PCI-6040E.  Will these be still valid for the PCI-6251?

No, you can not simply exchange the cards, because the M-series card
only work with the DaqMX driver. So you have to rewrite your aplication
to use the MX driver.

Hi Kevin,

Stephan is correct. The PCI-6251 is an M-Series board and can only be used with the DAQmx driver. Your current card, PCI-6040E, is an E-Series board and can be programmed with both Traditional DAQ and DAQmx. If you are using the DAQmx driver with your PCI-6040E then you should be able to use the same programs. If your programs are using the Traditional DAQ drivers then you will not be able to use the same programs on the PCI-6251.

If you are using DAQmx and you would like to move to an M-Series card, make sure you compare the specifications of the two cards. You want to avoid moving to a card that does not have the functionality necessary for your application. Here are links to the specifications of the PCI-6040E and the PCI-6251. I hope this helps!
