There have been a few cases where an error such as this would happen during installation and they usually involve one of the following:
1) Not being logged in as administrator under NT/2000
2) Installing or reinstalling beta versions of CVI 6.0 have shown some behavior similar to this.
3) Having installed a beta version of CVI 6.0 before installing the released retail version.
Are you logged in as administrator under NT/2000? Did you have any beta version of CVI 6.0 installed on your computer prior to installing the release version of Measurement Studio 6.0? Did you successfully uninstall any beta version if you had it on there prior? Are you trying to install a beta version or the released retail version?
If a beta version was installed prior to an install of the released retail version of CVI 6.0, you may have registry entries left over from the beta installation that are conflicting with the release version installation. You can try uninstalling all previous versions of CVI and any additional National Instruments software (as long as you have media for reinstalling at a later time), rebooting, and then trying the install again to see if that helps. However, if this does not work you may want to do some registry cleaning to see if that can take care of the conflicts cropping up in your install. You can use a program like Symantec's registry maintenance utility or Microsoft's regclean.exe to get rid of unused registry entries, but before doing anything of the sort you should back up your registry. Once your registry is backed up you can launch regedit.exe or regedt32.exe and search for all keys related to "National Instruments", "CVI", "Measurement Studio", "ComponentWorks" and delete them, reboot, and then try the install one last time. If all else fails it might be beneficial to try a reinstall of the OS, making sure to backup your data files for a restore, and then see if the installer works after this.
