Future of our CVI Projects

I'm sorry that wasn't clear.  I own VS.  I have not migrated CVI projects to it.

Gotcha.  At my company, I solely authored and maintain 3 very large CVI based projects that are involved in manufacturing environments.  There are probably 200k lines of total code?

My best case scenario would be if NI open sourced the RTE and libs and the community take it upon themselves to make a VS Code extension or similar.

Moving to VS would be great if it was done properly and was something I intended to give it a try someday when the current programming demands (all in CVI, btw) diminish.

We have manufacturing codes integrated with NI hardware, multiple flight test packages with embedded NI USB daq cards probably totaling $450k, wind tunnel certification test lab codes, all with lots of hardware, along with other stand alone engineering tool applications. It's daunting.

As mentioned I was looking at retirement soon, now I'm terrified of leaving my company of over 27 years in a bind.

Please do something heroic NI.

There's no way I'm ever going back to the piece of **bleep** that was VS with its huge amount of complexity and backwardness going back forever. Only 2 things have kept me running Windows in a VM so far: CVI and an obscure RAW file editor. Everything else can be done simpler, cheaper, faster and with much more pleasure on Linux.

Just saw this in the news yesterday:

https://www.electronicsweekly.com/news/business/national-instruments-up-for-sale-2023-01/

https://www.statesman.com/story/business/technology/2023/01/13/austin-national-instruments-exploring...

"In 2023, we are taking the next step in this transformation, with significant improvements in operating efficiencies"  <--- sounds like layoffs and/or product cancellation to me

"Record revenues in 2022" and "focusing on software", which is of course managerspeak for lets fire people and lets get rid of secondary software lines... If NI is for sale, I put 100$ on the table. Who's with me ?

Yes, NI is on the market! They have confirmed they received a proposal from Emerson but rumors are there that at least three other companies are interested to purchase it. What will happen?

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
