General protection fault when using Windows Creators Update

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I've just migrated to Creators Update, and any application fails when exiting with a "General protection fault" message.

I'm using CVI 2015 SP1f1 and I confirmed the issue on different computers using NI sample projects.

Has anyone an idea on how to solve/avoid this issue ?

Regards.

Hello,

I have the same problem. The CVI applications works fine but they exit with a "General protection fault" message.

There's no problem with an "old" Windows version.

How exactly did you reproduce this? I'm trying to cause it so I can look into it.

I'm using windows build 15063 and a fresh install of CVI 2015 SP1 f1, but see no errors on shutdown of built examples.

  • What order did the install happen? Was CVI already installed when the creators update was pushed?
  • What examples are you using to confirm the issue?

Thanks,

Trent

The PC is a new one, freshly updated with the last version of windows 10.

CVI was not already installed when the creators update was pushed. I use a distribution kit for installing my application.

This application works fine but crashed on shutdown.

I tried with another applications and the same problem appears. All these applications works fine with an earlier windows version.

Alain

Hello,

On my computer:

- CVI 2013 (base) was installed at the time of Windows 7.

- Windows 7 was migrated to Windows 10 on July 2016.

- CVI 2013 has been migrated to CVI 2015 shortly after.

- RTE updated to 2015 SP1 f1

- Windows 10 Anniversary Update has been skipped, and Creators Update was done few days ago.

I'm not sure all this information is relevant, but who knows...

I forgot to mention that I have used "CVI2015/samples/rs232/serial.prj" but I guess any other project is triggering the bug on my computer.

Yes, I confirm. Same problem with a simple "hello world" program !

Could this be a case those who skipped the Anniversary Update discovering this issue?

Alain,

Are you positive that you're including the 2015 SP1 f1 runtime with your distribution? There were two f1 patches for CVI 2015 SP1, runtime and ADE - you need the runtime one.

You will get a crash on shutdown in Windows 10 with the non-patched runtime. So far I still haven't found any issues with the patched version on this newer windows update.

Thanks,

Trent

Trent,

I'm confused. I hadn't installed the f1 runtime patche. I did it when I saw the Ian W message and it works fine now !

Thank you very much.

Alain
