Did you mean:

Installation from distribution disks failed...

Error Message: "Insufficient disk space in C:\appl. You need at least 8,241,152 bytes of available space."

Even though the hard drive has 11.7 GB available. Tried several machines and got the same error messages...

c:\Appl
c:\CVI RTI

The operation system was NT 4.0 and the user has full administration privilege.

When installing on the application developing PC, it works fine.

You should always tell the version of CVI you are using. CVI 4.0.1 came out before >2 GB drives were supported in Windows. There was a problem in 4.0.1 with the dist kit installing to drives >2.0 GB that is discussed in our knowledgebase here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/4ea4025f51f49d6785256421005f51e1?OpenDocument

If you are using CVI 5.5, then I don't know what could be causing this and you should probably contact our support about it at http://www.ni.com/ask
