Installcomcallback - manage different dynamic configurations

Hi all I'm new with CVI and I have a simple question to ask: I need to retrieve data from a rs232 line and I know in advance the exact size of the message that I expect. I have no particular character to look at to trigger the callback. Recalling every time the InstallComCallback function providing different notifyCount parameter is the correct procedure? Is it also necessary to provide an eventChar and why?
