Hello,
I have a customer which has an issue with the installation kit I provided to him.
The program is not installing because of a MS Installer version incompatibility.
I don't know how I can know which version of MS installer is in the distribution kit but it looks like my customer has version 4.5 and the distribution kit needs 3.0 to install the program.
The company's helpdesk of my customer has made the test with Installer 3.0 and it was working but not with 4.5. As their standard is now 4.5 they don't want to switch back to 3.0 and they ask me to provide a new distribution kit which is compatible with version 4.5.
What can I do to satisfy my customer?
Thanks for help

hi,
Thank you for posting on National Instruments Forum's.
What version of Windows are you using? And the version of LabWindows?

Hi Bertrand,
This isn't related to the version of the Windows Installer engine, as it's fully backwards compatible. That is, their system has 4.5 and the distribution kit only requires 3.0 or greater - so this is fine.
This error message usually indicates that the system is running in "safe mode", or that the Installer engine is damaged. I think your customer will find that any other MSI-based installer won't work correctly, either. See the following articles for repair suggestions.

Dear all
I have exactly the same problem as described by Bertrand.
I can not believe that the installer is damaged on all pc's.
Like Bertrand states: MSI version 4.5 is not working, going back to version 3.0 all is ok
I am also using cvi 2009

For anyone having this error message with Windows Installer 4.5 - can you check to see if you have Microsoft Hotfix KB981669 or Hotfix KB972397 installed? (To check this in XP, go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, click "Show updates", and look for that number.) And if so, does uninstalling it before installing CVI fix the issue?

We are having the same problem with a customer. There seems to be no suggstion of a Hotfix with Windows XP. I don't know any clean downgrade from Windows Installer 4.5 to 3.1 Is there progress at NI for a solution to this?
