Missing NI-DAQ after upgrade

After upgrading CVI 8.8.1 to 8.5, per http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/28637F55A85EAD64862573A900008D3B?OpenDocument, I downloaded & installed DAX-MX 8.6.1f0 on my XP platform and then used the 11/07 driver set to complete the upgrade. The driver installer recognized the more recent version and did not install DAQ 8.6. Afterwards, CVI does not have access to the DAQ libraries. I tried the control panel repair function to no avail. How do i get NI-DAQmx 8.6.1f0 installed on an XP CVI 8.5 platform? Labview 8.5 can instantiate DAQ functions, but I did not try to run a Labview app.
Although probably unrelated, upon every bootup I get "tagsrv.exe application error" It is probably related to OPC. We do not have the OPC module, and OPC is not even an option on the driver install menu.

Hello,

when you upgrade LabWindows/CVI 8.1 (or older) with DAQmx already installed on the computer, you will need to uninstall the CVI support for DAQmx and reinstall it. This should take up to 15 minutes because you will be updating only the CVI part of DAQmx.

As for your TAGSRV.EXE problem: if you cannot correct the problem (and you don't need to use Network Variables in LabWindows/CVI or other NI products), you can simply disable the TAGSRV.EXE service in the registry and it will not start up after reboot. The name of the service is "National Instruments Variable Engine".

Hope this helps.

Hi Soller

Thank you for using our discussion forums.

I am a bit unclear about what problems you are experiencing.

From what I can tell you upgraded your LabWindows/CVI from 8.1 to 8.5, however from the information stored in the KB that you linked, you installed DAQmx 8.6.1 after the CVI upgrade was completed to avoid the DAQmx 8.6.0f12 driver problem and then used the Driver CD to finish the driver installation.

Now you have successfully installed CVI, DAQmx, and the rest of the drivers however you cannot access the DAQmx menu in CVI.

Please correct me if my assumptions are not correct.

From my understanding, you may have installed DAQmx first and then CVI.  You may need to reinstall the DAQmx driver to ensure support for CVI.

If by “CVI does not have access to the DAQ libraries”, you mean that the menu selections are grayed out, then the following KB will be able to help.  There are three common solutions to missing DAQ functions in CVI.

If you try these solutions and you are still having problems can you explain more about how you are not able to use the DAQmx functions.

Also as you mentioned, can you ensure that a LabVIEW VI using the DAQmx VIs will run.  This may help isolate the source of the.

No "access" to the libraries did mean the menu selection was diabled and DAQmx was not in the library tree. This was the case even when it was selected per the library option menu KB.
However a complete DAQmx uninstall/re-install (as opposed to the previous repair attempt) did work. Thank you for the advice.
