Good day,
I am using LabView 8.5 with a PCI-GPIB card. Everything worked great. Then I started developing with Visual Studio .Net 2005 (VB) and downloaded the NI-488.2Version 2.5 package, which has the APIs for the 2.0 framework and VS .net 2005 (apparently that instals or updates LabWindows/CVI). All the vb sample programs supplied by NI work in VS 2005, but when I start LabView or other NI software an instalation Wizzard pops up and wants to configure NI LabWindow/CVI 8.1 Run-Time Engine. It asks to restart the computer. I did that but it keeps poping up every time LabView is started. When I choose to proceed without restarting my computer, LabView starts but crashes after a while. I tried removing CVI 8.1 which also removed LabView...
Any ideas why that happens? Are there incompatibilities or updates that I need?
I was going to reinstall all NI software on my computer, but I'm afraid that the same will happen again. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Adrian

I seem to recall an issue we had a while back where a certain installation order would cause the CVI RTE to be in a bad state. You can fix that issue by installing a later version of the CVI RTE from our website. You can download 9.0 as its the latest release out.

Jonathan,
Thanks for your reply. I am sure that would have solved the problem. However, in the meanwhile I tried to remove the software package that I installed. Unfortunately that removed LabView as well. So I just called our IT guy, who installed the latest version of LabView. The whole package had a driver CD (I think it's called "NI Drivers 2008" or something like that), which updated the GPIB board drivers that I was using. It appears that these new drivers support Visual Studio 2005 and it works great.
If others run into this problem, I would recomend either installing the latest CVI RTE verstions (see reply above) or simply update your hardware driver (I found the new PCI GPIB Board driver on NI's website, which has Visual Studio 2005 support).
Thanks,
Adrian
