NI S/w is applicable NI H/w only?

Hi all,
I'm new to NI. I have some question. Plz calrify my doubts.
1. NI S/W tools is applicable only NI H/W.
2. Is it possible to use third party H/W.

I heard we can't use NI s/w for third party H/W. Is it correct. I could be wrong also. Correct me.

NI software (LabWindows CVI, LabView, TestStand, etc.) are not limited to NI hardware.
LabWindows CVI is ANSI C based. Most hardware manufacturer's provide C libraries to interface with their equipment.
LabView comes with hundreds of drivers for instrument from many manufacturers.
Many instruments have a serial or GPIB interface. LabWindows CVI and LabView both have libraries to communicate on these interfaces. The instrument manufacturers provide documentation on commands used for their instruments.
