National Instruments USB-8451 in LabWindows/CVI for SPI communication

Hi,
I'd like to use the USB-8451 for SPI communication in some embedded control work I'm doing.
I saw a post here back in March 2006 that mentioned that there is no support for the USB-8451 in LabWindows/CVI.
Any progress since that time?
Or -- does anyone know of any other solution that will allow SPI communications using LW/CVI.
I didn't see any other National Instruments cards???

Any input or ideas will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kirk

Hello Kirk,
There is currently no support for LabWindows/CVI and the USB-8451.  At this time, this is the only National Instruments device that performs SPI communication.

Angela,

Do you know if LabWindows/CVI support will be added in the future?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Kirk,

CVI support for the 8451 is a feature that is being planned on for the future, but I cannot give a time when it will be available.

I have a similar need (just bought one of these, hasn't arrived yet), but I was hoping I could use LabVIEW's "application builder" to create a DLL/LIB/header file-set that is the binary-equivalent of the LabVIEW "NI-845x" driver-VI's.  This way I can use it from CVI or from VS.NET.

Does anyone out there (familiar with LabVIEW and building DLLs from VI's) see an issue with doing it this way...?

If not, then the next obvious question for the CVI user community would be: anybody else out there have a similar need, and can accurately advise on how to do this properly?

Of course you would still need to perform the "hardware driver" installation from the CD-ROM (to get the low-level *.sys and *.dll files that allow the operating system to recognize the hardware in the first place).

If this can't be done, then I'll have to create a custom DLL application in LabVIEW that is specific to each product requirement I have.

OK, so I've got a 38 inch waist now, but my hometown friends haven't shaken that appellation for me. I trust that you will someday be OK with that alias, as I have been with that nickname.

Is there a driver for CVI for 8451?

I need to write some SPI communication.

Any good examples?

CVI is my preffered choice, but if not available, I can use LabView as well.

Thanks

A useful place to start with is: http://www.ni.com/downloads/ni-drivers

For USB-8451, the search yields the following results:
