Perforce and CVI

In retrospect, considering all past forum postings of problems and solutions with Perforce and LabWindows/CVI, would anyone care to present a comprehensive tutorial to install and setup a first-time Perforce system for CVI development, including descripton of basic operation, recommendations for any special tools, references, and any other helpful information?   Thanks?

Hello Steve,

If you want a simple walkthrough on setting up Source Code Control in CVI this KnowledgeBase might help.  Also the CVI help has some additional information.

I haven't personally worked with Perforce & CVI so I am not sure if there are any more specific problems you may run into. Hopefully there are some users out there who have used these programs together and they can provide you with some more information.  I will try to talk to some individuals internally here at NI to see if they may have some input on this issue.

Steve,

People here at NI do use Perforce with CVI and have done so successfully with minimal problems.  I spoke with a few individuals and it turns out that most of the problems they ran into, and most of those on the forums, are related to problems setting up the Perforce client on the PC not so much telling CVI to recognize the SCC service.  You might have noticed the setup process linked in my last post is relatively simple, and this accurately reflects how the integration process should be.  If you have the Perforce client working properly on a given PC then pointing CVI to that client shouldn't be too difficult.

If you do run into problems or have specific questions I would be more than happy to help, but as I mentioned before we, unfortunately, don't have a comprehensive tutorial for integrating these two products.
