could you be more precise on what problems you are getting? Also, is this function correctly spelled? Where does it come from? Is it the Spectral Measurements Toolset from NI?

About the windowing, what it will do is to apply a window to the data points (block) on which the algorithm will calculate the FFT or STFT, reducing the effect of mathematically considering the signal to be analyzed as an infinite repetition of the block. This is a rather short explanation, you should check out for more info if what you really want is to understand the benefits and methods used.
