USB-4065 SFP driver version 2.9 not work in Vista Premium

Hey Robert,

Thanks for sending in your system information.  Hopefully while we look into this issue you can use an XP machine as a temporary workaround for your DMM measurements.  I'll keep you updated with what I find, but if this is a bug in the DMM driver it will take time to correct.

Hey Robert,

I looked through your system information and it looks like your BIOS might not be up to date.   Check acer's website to verify your BIOS is current.  Also, if you have Windows XP installed on another hard drive, try temporarily swapping the XP drive in place of the Vista drive and see if you can get the 4065 working on the Acer with XP running instead of Vista.  We're trying to verify that the issue is in fact Vista, or if it is the computer's hardware components.  If XP doesn't work, either, then the error might lie within the Acer motherboard. Please keep me up to date withthe status of this issue.

Hello John,

I do not believe this is a BIOS related issue. The reason is that in my first post I reported that

"2.   When I run installed .exe programs (which used to work with DMM) they no longer run. A popup message says "MyProgramABC has stopped working".

All the problems started after I installed the USB DMM driver version 2.9.0.

Robert,

The primary reason we believe this may be a BIOS issue is that the Vista/USB-4065-/NI-DMM 2.9 combination has been tested successfully several times on this end.  However, we can make sure it's not a BIOS/Driver/Hardware combination by simulating a USB-4065 in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and using that with the soft-panel, executables, and your CVI program using the simulated device, that will eliminate the software and driver portions of the problem.

In order to simulate the device, open MAX and expand "Devices and Interfaces".  Next, right-click on NI-DAQmx Devices and select  Create a new NI-DAQmx Device » NI-DAQmx Simulated Device.  Expand Digital Mulitmeters and select NI USB-4065.

Then test your various programs.  In the DMM Soft Front Panel, you should see simulated data for each of the modes.  This is the same data that will be returned to your other applications.  If we can confirm that this works, we can work on isolating any compatibility issues.

Hello Seth,

I created a simulated NI USB-4065 device.

1)   When I selected "Self Test" I got the popup error message:   "The device reset has failed. The error report from the device driver is as follows: Error -88302 occurred at Device Reset. Possible reason(s): An internal error occurred."

2) When I pressed "Reset Device" I got exactly the same error as above at 1).

3) When I tried to run "Test Panel", I got a popup error message which said "The device self test has failed. Do you want to continue?"

When I pressed YES button, I got another popup error  "ERROR: -1074118650 .............".

I hope this would help diagnose the problem.

Robert,

All of these errors were returned when trying to select "Self Test", "Reset Device", or "Test Panels" on the simulated USB-4065, not the actual USB-4065, correct?  If so, that is extremely strange; a simulated device should never fail a self test or a reset.  Because this is so unusual, we are going to need more detailed information.  Please run a technical report in MAX (File » Create Report » Technical Report » Next » Next » Finish) and post the ZIP file that is created.  Also, could you post a detailed summary of how the installation of NI-DMM 2.9 went (clean install, any errors?) and any driver or NI software changes that have been made recently.  Thank you in advanced, and I apologize that it's taking so long to sort this issue out.

Hey Robert,

I have a few recommendations here as well.  If you've already uninstalled and then reinstalled NI-DMM 2.9 with no success and are sure your BIOS is up to date, we could have you send in your Acer laptop to troubleshoot.  Short of this, the more information you can provide us about your configuration, the better we will be able to isolate this issue.  We already have your machine information and per Seth's last reply we should soon have your MAX configuration.  Any other information you can provide as to how the machine is set up is extremely helpful in order to figure out what the underlying cause is.  Thanks for your continued patience solving this problem.

One more thing:  If we have your phone number on file, I can access this information with your permission and give you a call to further troubleshoot this issue, if you'd like.

Hello John,

Attached is the info you requested.

Also, I did not have any errors when I installed and re-installed the USB DMM ver. 2.9.0 drivers.

Than you.

Hey Robert,

I was not able to reproduce this issue and submitted a CAR with the information you provided.  Since we cannot reproduce the issue, it's hard to focus on what specifically causes the problem.  It would be very helpful if you could send in your machine so that we can troubleshoot it specifically.  If you would like to do this, I can contact you and set up an RMA.
