Unable to launch CVI 2009

Hi,

I am using CVI 2009 Full Development Environment, and I am having problem in launching the application.  I can see the flash screen in application starts up, but the screen would just disappear.  There was no error message or any type of dialog prompt.  When I tried to invoke the CVI from TestStand, and that returns the following error message:

Unable to launch CVI

Error Code: -17701

I wonder if anyone had similar situation?  And how to resolve?

Thank you.

Peggy

I made a search in the Knowledgebase and found this entry: hope it can be of some help to you.

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

Thanks for that good find, Roberto. Let us know if that doesn't fix the issue, and we can look into it further.

Hey Peggy -

If this is still giving you trouble, I'd recommend looking at the workaround in this LabWindows/CVI 2009 known issue - it sounds very similar based on your description.

That fix for corrupted registry sounds like a possible solution, but I have already reimaged the drive and re-installed the software.

Thank you for the hints.

Hi,  I guess I shouldn't say the problem went away... Because the CVI refuses to come up again.   I tried the procedure defined in the Known Issue, and I stock at the first step:

Launch Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>LabWindows/CVI 2009>>Tools>>Import-Export Settings

The error message that returned to me says: The buffer passed was too small for the operation.

Beside the procedure in Known Issue, I also tried to reinstall the LabWindows/CVI, which it also doesn't work.

Were you able to try deleting the registry key directly as noted in the Known Issue workaround?? The Import-Export Settings tool would simply be deleting those keys for you, so a direct approach may be better in this situation.

Nick,

You're the man! Deleting the registry key fixed this problem for my customer.

With warm regards,

After a few months of not developing any new CVI code, I was working on a couple of new functions I call from Teststand and I am getting the same error mentioned above, Error Code: -17701 Unable to launch CVI, when I set TestStands CVI adaptor to run an external instance for me to single step the function I wrote.  I have done this many times before on this setup and never had this problem.

I am running TestStand 2010 SP1 with CVI 2010 on Windows 7.

I tried to look at the Knowledge Base Link mentioned in this thread about removing a registery key, but the link does not seem to be valid anymore.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Look for known issue 239396.
