Windows Vista

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if CVI 8 (when it comes out of beta) will be supported on Windows Vista?

Greetings

It'll probably install and run on Vista, but it's not an OS that we officially support at this point, especially since Vista is still in its beta phases. But making compatible CVI with Vista is something we are looking into for the future.

Hi Bilal,

Will CVI 8 (when it comes out of Beta) officially support Windows Server 2003 yet?   ...that O/S has been out for a while now.  I have software running on it, as do many others probably, but it would be nice for NI to recognize a two-year old operating system.  And what about the embedded Windows O/Ss, like XPE or potentially Vista E (if there ever is one).  Sometimes we have to use CVI software here as well, and it would just be nice for NI to recognize their support as well.

Hello Cosmo

CVI 8.0 will not officially support Win 2003 server. The reason I say this is because we don't do any kind of extensive testing on the Windows Server products. And the main reason for this is because not many of our customers use the Windows Server products as their main development OS.

I would expect CVI to just work since there has not been a significant API change in Win 2003 server and all the old APIs still work.  You just have to be more careful about the various security restrictions that are in place in the server products. But typically I would not expect anyone use a server OS as a development system, more for a deployment target.

We do monitor customer requests for supporting the various OSes out there. So I would recommend you (and any one else out there interested in this) use the product feedback link and make sure sure we hear about your needs.

With all that said, I would like to hear if you have run into problems with using CVI on Windows Server 2003. I can't guarantee we'll fix all the issues that are specific to the server products, but we can certainly try and see if there is something we can do to help you out.

We are looking into XPE as a possibly supported platform in the future.

I hope this helps.
