analyze an mp3 file showing visualization like in media player

Hi All,

I would like to write a small application that can load an mp3 file (or wav file) and while the file is being played get the frequencies present at any given time.

Like in any mp3 player, showing a visualization of the sound in colors.

I would appreciate your help on how to get started.
