best library for RS232 comm ?

What is the best library to use when communicating with a comm port ?

By best I mean :
- immunity to fast/slow computers in event response time
- immunity to user events
- combine the best high level and low level control functions.

I have tried RS232 and VISA, but I can't take a decision.

Dear Jolaf,

I think you should go on this NI VISA link to see what this driver is corresponding to.

However, I think it's better to use NI-VISA because it works as well as RS 232 but it permits to communicate with other protocols as USB, Ethernet, GPIB... which allows you to develop applications easierly evolutive if you need to change your instrument.
