This is a visual reminder of the control mode, to let the user distinguish between operable and non-operable fields.
To prevent this you can only set those elements after changing the control mode via the proper attributes.
You may have noted also that if the control lable is on the left of the control itself, it will be shifted by some amount of pixels when changing from hot to indicator and vice versa.
