Hi guys, this isn't really a problem but something that has been bugging me for a while. I am very new to the program so don't know much about it. Recently I've had an error installing the program, so NI has given me a license file to install but I don't know exactly how to install it. Could someone please help me install a license file

Hey there,
Did National Instruments give you a license file or an activation code for your software? License files are usually reserved for volume license manager whereas activation codes are reserved for activating individual softwares. Have you attempted to install your software since getting the license file? Are you receiving an error? What steps are you going through in trying to install your software?

Jackie

Hi thanks for replying, I currently have an activation code for the product but it appears not to work; says its an invalid activation/serial code. I contacted NI and they gave me a license file, although somehow I must use it to activate my product. I have overviewed the "License Manager Help", which have instructions following with "drag the License file in the data tree" but I don't know which application to use. I believe a VLM is required but I am not sure.
thanks again Tristan

Hey Tristan,
Alright, I think I know what's going on. If this is a license file for a new product that you have not had before, follow these directions:
1. Close all NI Programs including the License Manager
2. Go to your C drive
3. In the menu bar go to Tools-> Folder Options-> View-> Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives
4. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\License Manager\Licenses
5. Drop the license file in this folder
6. Restart the License Manager
If this is for a product that you already had on your computer, you may need to move the old software license files in that folder to a temporary folder, drop the new license file in and restart the license manager. The directions are as follows:
1. Close all NI Programs including the License Manager
2. Go to your C drive
3. In the menu bar go to Tools-> Folder Options-> View-> Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives
4. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\License Manager\Licenses
5. Move all existing license files that correspond to the product you are trying to activate from the folder to a temporary folder
6. Drop the license file in this folder
7. Restart the License Manager
If you can successfully activate your product without unactivating other products, you can delete the temporary folder. If it does not work, please put back all the license files that you removed and try restarting the license manager again.

Jackie
