Now this is strange, every CVI release comes with its proper set of examples: reinstalling the product if you already have media disks can fix it. In such an old release examples should be installed in a path similar to c:\program files\national instruments\cvi5\samples
Another source of information is NI site: going to ni.com/examples and searching for "cvi" gives you this list of available examples: unfortunately there is no mean to select desired target CVI release, so you'll have to check the examples of your interest to see if some command newer than your release is used
