how to set up a cascading counter with cDAQ-9402

I have a cDAq-9402 module in a cDAQ-9188 Ethernet chassis and I am trying to set up a cascading counter without any success. Is this possible with this configuration are there any CVI examples for doung this?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

Woould it be possible for you clarify what you mean by a cascading counter in this application?

Are you looking to cascade counters of the cDAQ-9188 or perform some counting related to to your cDAQ-9402?

Hi Chris,

I know the chassis has 4, 32 bit counters which can be accessed via the 9402 module. Basically I wat to set up a timer which is triggered by a digital input. I may need to use 3 timers on a 10KHz timebase.

I have tried various setups but cannot get it to do this. I tried using the frequency output of one of the channels to pulse the input in the first of the counters with a rollover to the second and third counter. This is how I did it in previous application althpugh that was a few years ago on older NI kit.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

It may be beneficial to post this in the Counter/Timer forum for more detailed answers.

However, I've looked into this and it appears that you can route two of the counters internally, but it may not be possible to do more than this.

It may however be possible to route the signals externally so that you can cascade more than two counters.

The process for pairing two counters is described around page 5-12 in the cDAQ manual located here.
