In my opinion you should study the examples that are installed in CVI together with NI-DAQ software or are available on NI site (a list can be found here and additional resources are listed here😞 this collection of samples covers the main acquisition and generation tasks and that give you a framework from which to start developing your application.
I suggest you also to revise the knowledge base and tutorials that are available on the NI site and take a look at the contents published in the developer zone: here the result of search for tutorial, data acquisition and cvi .
