runtime setup

Uninstalled beta CVI 9.0.

Reinstalled ver 8.1 of CVI.

Runtime Engine configuration runs everytime CVI

is started.

Installed ver 8.1.1 of runtime, does the same.

How can I get it to stop?

TIA

Hello csk,

I have a few additional questions for you:

  • What version of the Runtime Engine tries to configure when you run CVI?
  • How are you launching CVI?  Are you opening one of your projects created while using the beta or are you launching the 8.1 environment manually?

Thank you in advance for these answers!

Its doing it for 8.1 exactly like it was for 8.0.1.

I launch CVI from the icon in Windows menu listing not

from a prj file directly.

It repeats the same question three times, if I say

no for its request to reboot.

If it reboots, it asks the same questions again.

Upon the third no, the IDE loads.

Thereafter no problems.

Hi csk,

You mentioned installing 8.1.1 of the RTE which shouldn't be possible unless you completely removed all CVI software from the system. The reason I state this is because when you install LabWindows/CVI 9.0 on your system, this installed version 9.0 of the RTE on your system.  This now means that all CVI IDEs are using this version of the RTE because there can be only one version of the RTE installed on the system.  Now, you could have removed the 9.0 FDS software from your system via Add/Remove programs but if you tried to remove the 9.0 RTE, it would say that you also need to remove LabWindows/CVI 8.1 (or whatever versions you had). This is because those MSI parts have a dependency upon the RTE. Additionally, if you tried to then install a lower version of the RTE on the system (i.e. less than 9.0), the installer should have prompted saying it won't install because it found a higher version on your system.

Now, with all that said, if you could please state specifically what software you had before you installed 9.0, what you did to get 9.0 off the system, and then what your next steps were with regards to installing CVI RTE's. I tried reproducing the issue based upon what I thought you did (i.e. and I also tried to think of scenarios you could have gotten in to) but wasn't able to get into the same state as you.

Lastly, the next time the installer dialog pops up, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.
  2. Go to the Event Viewer and look at the Application event logs.
  3. In there, you should find some MSI Error logs that tell us what GUID and file it can't find and is trying to repair.  Please post this information for me.

Thanks

Windows XP OS

Orig install was CVI 8.0.1 (never uninstalled it)

Loaded CVI 9.0

Systematic lockups occured.

Uninstalled CVI  9.0, removed everything... RTE and IDE.

CVI 8.0.1 was orphaned.

Installed 8.0.1 RTE

INstalled 8.1 RTE

Hi csk,

Can you please tell me the version of your cvirte.dll in your system32 directory?

Also, I am a little unclear of how you were able to remove CVI 9.0 entirely (IDE and RTE) without removing the 8.0.1 IDE. Did you manually try and delete certain files or try and use underlying MSI tools to remove these parts?
