Hi,
With Scientic Linux 5 (=RHEL 5.5) everything worked fine. No problems with VISA and 488 stuff.
I updated my lab-computer to Scientific Linux 6. Just to look, if it works.
Labview installed fine, VISA also, but with the GPIB-stuff I got little bit confused.
The NI-488 Linux package does not support the kernels of Scientific Linux 6. (I can see the GPIB-controller in NI-VISA as a RAW device...and this do not work)
I removed the NI-488-package and installed the linux-gpib software. Via the ibtest-program it is possible to communicate with my instruments.
On the NI-Website is written: "The Linux GPIB Package is a support package for GPIB (IEEE 488) hardware. The API of the C library is intended to be compatible with National Instruments' GPIB library."
But everytime I tried to control my instruments, I get the failure, that no GPIB-Controller found. But ibtest in the terminal works fine. (I can contact my instruments and they response).
So the question is: How can I control my instruments with Labview and linux-gbip?
And is it "normal" that VISA cannot see the controller, if I use linux-gpib?
I hope someone can help me...
