Every few months, LabVIEW users from across Yorkshire meet in Sheffield for the Sheffield LabVIEW User Group (SLUG) to discuss the latest developments in LabVIEW, network with other LabVIEW users and share best practice in the industry.
LabVIEW User Groups are run by LabVIEW users FOR LabVIEW users, and topics are dictated by the user group members based on their interests and what they would like to increase their knowledge in.
Our March LabVIEW User Group was primarily focused on bringing LabVIEW to the web, and after an update from National Instruments about the latest developments in LabVIEW, Sam Sharpe took to the stage to introduce Websockets.
Sam describes Websockets as “a web technology that allows a browser and a server to communicate in a way similar to TCP/IP. The browser sends a WebSocket upgrade request (very similar to a HTTP request), the server sends a HTTP response with specific headers and then you can send/receive data through the open connection.”
Sam delivered a very informative presentation about Websockets and how you can interface with your LabVIEW application from a web browser using WebSockets. Sam has kindly shared his presentation with members of the SLUG forum on the NI website which is available for you to view here.
