So having recently upgraded to 6.7.1 on one of our systems I have a few observations and just a little more things to digest.
First, 6.7.1 seems to run pretty well on the system and even runs the proprietary driver that was made in Lookout 4.0 still!
Databases are still an issue, especially archiving/restoring. We have the previous database will full trends, but when archived to the new machine we are missing data. We get no alerts or failures that we could then diagnose.
Support SSP prices are ridiculous, nearly $2k for email support in addition to a $2k+ upgrade cost (Prior 6.x to 6.7.1 Unlimtied Dev/Run)?
The suggestions to move to Labview: Problem for us is that most of our systems are under 200 IO (~$2500, Dev/Run), to run on LabView these same systems would cost at minimum $3600 (LabView Base Dev + DSC). We do not do runtime only, as I feel this makes the system locked in and feel that is a disservice to the customer. On the higher end (500+ IO) LabView makes sense!
After talking with my local NI rep, he expressed that any upgrades to Lookout will be directly related only to upgrades that LabView gets and will not have "new" features added specifically for Lookout. Whcih could mean, once LabView gets mobile support Lookout will... Oh wait: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14033/en/
Beating a dead-horse I know it, but just passing along what I know and have learned. Lookout is not being EOL'd but may not be a good solution for NEW systems.
