How can I program Lookout to sense a power outage from an UPS and initiate a last command to RTUs then shutdown?

Hello,

I have an APC RS-1500 Uninterruptable Power Supply powering a PC (XP Pro) running Lookout 6.0.1 that SCADAs Zetron controllers via radios.

I want to be able to sense when a power outage has happened via the UPS then trigger a command to my remote RTUs (radios on UPS too) before power runs out of the batteries.

Any ideas? ActiveX or something?

Also, what about gracefully shutting down Lookout; I have read some postings on using "Lookout.exe - shutdown" but I am getting errors.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

The way I have handled the AC PWR FAIL at the RTU is to wire up a 120 VAC ice cube relay to the incoming power (before the UPS) and wire the contact (NO or NC) to a DI of your Zetron.  This way, you will know if you have an AC PWR FAIL at the RTU.  While there is AC, the coil of the relay will be energized.  If the AC goes away the coil will de-energize and OPEN or CLOSE (depending how you wire it up) your contact, sending a signal to the Zetron giving you enough time to log the Alarm in Lookout.

As far as shutting down Lookout, I don't have an answer for you.

In the "Dev Zone" there is an example of how to shutdown the computer.

You can find a description and an example of using the Run object to shutdown Lookout in KnowledgeBase 2AJAK7J6 linked below.

I hope this is what you are looking for.  If not, please post a reply.
