Keyboard Driver Filter doesn't work in 6.0.2

We're aware that the NI Keyboard Driver Filter may cause the computer to hang in the middle of shutdown (Windows XP) if a USB keyboard is used, so we substituted a PS-2 keyboard.  This worked fine.

Then, when we updated Lookout 6.0.1 to 6.0.2, making sure that the Keyboard Driver Filter was installed, we found that the Keyboard Driver Filter did not work.  It was still possible for a user with a lower priority to reach the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del.

We need to protect Lookout from being accidentally closed by users "playing" with the keyboard.

How do we get this function back?

From your words, I get that it worked fine in Lookout 6.0.1, but doesn't work now in 6.0.2.  Right?
Try to uninstall the keyboard filter and install it again. It won't cost much time and should solve the problem.

Thanks for your response!

In previous versions of Lookout (including 6.0.1) it was possible to insert the Install disc and from the menu select "Install Lookout".  The Setup program would run and then let you select features to install or un-install.

6.0.2 is different in that the setup program stops with the following message:

setup.exe

Another Lookout 6.0 software package is already installed on this computer.  You can have only one Lookout 6.0 package at a time installed on a computer: Development/Server Software, Runtime Only Client Software, or Lookout Player (Web Client).

OK

I tried using Windows XP Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / National Instruments / Lookout 6.0.2 / Change / Modify, but I get the same results.

Is there something I'm missing, or must I completely un-install and re-install 6.0.2, install the 6.0.2 updates and then re-configure Lookout in order to make sure that the Keyboard Driver Filter is installed?

I'll do that if I have to, but I wouldn't call it a quick fix.

I got something from R&D. The keyboard filter in Lookout 6.0.2 has some bugs, which cause it not to work and also some other unexpected problems. That means the filter in 6.0.2 doesn't work at all.
You'd better uninstall the whole Lookout 6.0.2 and then install it again without keyboard filter. After that, you need to install the keyboard filter shipped with DSC 8.0.1, which has fixed those bugs. See the attachment.

Sorry for inconvenience.

Thanks, Ryan!

I'll do the un-install and re-install of Lookout 6.0.2 without the keyboard driver as soon as I determine what I have to save so that I won't lose 2 days work designing my application.

Ryan:

I un-installed and re-installed Lookout 6.0.2 without the Keboard Driver Filter.  (Restarted the computer)  Then I installed the 6.0.2 Update patches and went through the procedure to set the Options / System so that the proper security levels were set.

Finally, I installed the replacement Keyboard Driver Filter you supplied and restarted the computer.

It now works properly on both PS2 and USB keyboards.  It blocks Ctrl-Alt-Del and Alt-Tab when the user is logged in with a lower security level and permits them with the higher level.

Thanks!

Ken

Has the problem with the Keyboard Driver Filter been fixed in Lookout 6.2, or must we still use the substitute filter you supplied when we were using Lookout 6.0.2?

Yes, it has been fixed in 6.2. I think the filter from 6.2 has higher version than the one from DSC 8.0.1.
